I’ve also been keeping track of his thoughts on Classic WoW as well as live WoW issues as well as being exposed to the problems plaguing the game in aion classic kinah general. When I was watching his latest video talking about the possibility of World of Warcraft 2 I had a strange thought.
Everquest 2 was my first MMO. It was back in 2004. It was a great game. I still play it from time to time. However , it’s thoughts died and morphed into less than what it was when I first started playing it. Everquest 2 has some time ago made available a Time Locked Expansion server or TLE in short, it was basically an EQ2 server with a boost, servers would get expansions much faster, and eventually the server would reach a point where it was live, and a fresh TLE would be created back at a bare minimum. EQ2 is much more extensive than WoW, and also has a quality over quantity issue.
It is now clear that EQ2 is not as large of an MMO, never was never will be, but I have noticed the same feelings from the WoW community as well as Asmon’s position regarding classic and live games in general that these two games could be taking the same path as the other. Classic could be the basis of a TLE. It begins great, and everyone is in awe of the nostalgia. The excitement eventually goes away as people realize they don’t feel the same experience any more.
If there is another example of how TLEs can affect the past player base of a particular game, it is Archage’s efforts to do the same, and currently Aion is attempting to reintroduce players who loved the first version of the game.
It will be fascinating to see the way Classic differs from the TLEs of Everquest or the new releases of Archage, Aion. However experience has shown that TLEs from EQ2 tend to die out quickly and there is less enthusiasm for expansions. This is why Classic is not the best option for players who are committed to the game.
Also, DayBreak, the company in charge of EQ2, really doesn’t care about the player base as much as Blizzard does with WoW (aka, micro transactions, p2w mechanics, and more) They are using it as a cash cow to keep the game afloat as a way to draw in old players or new players to a game which is currently plagued by issues on live and plagued with mechanic and number bloat.
While I’m not sure how much I can play I am on the Siel server at Aion Classic. It’s very busy during the day as well as at night (I’m NA East). Fun and extremely popular with both NA as well as EU players. I’d suggest that you to join us. :
After some further research, I would not be joining the team, mainly due to the nature of the company that is behind Aion. I’m not going to have the time to buy aion classic kinah eu catch up. I’m not an expert, and it will be difficult to be successful.
