The instance I can think of Phantasy Star Online 2 Meseta is that the Monster Hunter Frontier Z collaboration where I could envision the weapons and clothing could unquestionably be given a visual update alongside everything else but that I do not exactly understand how the licensing or how the legal side of the cooperation functions in which I would wish it had been as simple as Sega going through and updating the assets but I don’t understand about how much Capcom is involved in this process.
The same applies to collaborations such as the Final Fantasy XIV cooperation with Odin (which still exists as far as I know) where I don’t understand how much Square Enix is involved in that for Sega to be able to update resources there. If it was purely just Phantasy Star-related items (such as character outfits, cameos from different games, or other Sega-related possessions ) I could imagine this likely would have been done, or would be done. But from the worldwide version we already don’t have the existence of Cougar NX so that I don’t exactly know if there are additional complications seeing Sega’s own properties that might also contribute to not upgrading everything they can within reason.
I can imagine that likely out there we will still see someone wearing those older collaboration items even if they are not rigged up to the same criteria as fresh cosmetics in a similar way and that there would have been outrage when it was made obsolete or unusable. Collabs that have experienced their cosmetics removed nevertheless have their assets exist on the game so those will probably still be accessible for jp players.
Only improvements we will likely see is the new engine improving shadows, reflections, colors, particle effects and projecting them from the drapes. You may take a look how just applying better shadows and colors can improve older equipment by assessing ReShade screenshots.
