Okay, I didn’t cry. However, I was quite angry. I was certain that RuneScape gold the 138 combat calculation would win and was proven wrong. As of the morning of February 15th EST the 138 combat calculation has won 71 percent to 29%. The most troubling part is that it’s doing so for many reasons that aren’t right. It’s simply because it’s superior to the previous system in every way.
We need to examine Runescape’s beginnings to understand the reason. Runescape was a completely different game at the time it was created than it is today. It was a blend of 2D and 3D graphics, a relatively slow speed of movement and a completely different combat system. The three hit combat system is what people often imagine when they think of Runescape the classic’s combat system.
That means you have to take at least three hits from your opponent before you are able to take a break. This differs from Runescape 2 and 3, which you are able to leave whenever you want. The distinctions in combat extend beyond the three-hit combat.
Melee was the primary type of combat used in the original game. The reason for this was that magic and ranged were largely underdeveloped. Ranged was a complete lack of development and there was very little in the form of range armor and ranged was rarely used in a PvP context. Magic had similar disadvantages. If a person fails to cast a spell it could take up to 20 minutes for them to try again.
Also, magic was hard to train. It was not a part of Runecrafting skills made it expensive. While magic gained some credence when the god spells were released, magic for the most part was nothing more than a complement to melee. Understandably, in Runescape Classic Attack and Strength were favored more into the calculation of buy OSRS gold combat than Ranged and Magic.
